    Lyrics
I felt the earth on Monday
    It moved beneath my feet
In the form of a morning paper
Laid out for me to see
I saw his face in a color picture
    I recognized the name
Could not stop staring at the
    Face I’d never see again

Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics

Two of the most influential visionaries and leaders in the political blogosphere, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga (Daily Kos) and Jerome Armstrong (MyDD.com), co-authors of the unflinching “Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics” - a powerful dissection of today’s political establishment - are coming to town.

On Friday evening, April 21, Zuniga and Armstrong will be at “Club 310″ (3321 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica) from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, to be followed by an 8:00 pm appearance at “Book Soup” (8818 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles).

An Appeal from the Ruling of the Chair - Part One

    Report Card Arrives Early

This article begins a multi-part series exposing the dysfunctional, mismanaged and, in some respects, criminal nature – philosophical, practical, moral and legal – of the Office of Student Life at Santa Monica College as it operates (or, rather, doesn’t) under the ultimate jurisdiction of Dr. Robert “Bobbie” Adams, vice president of student affairs, but actual day-to-day management of Assistant Dean of Student Life Deyna Hearn and Student Activities Advisor Benny Blaydes.

Bush Junta - No Friend to Truth

Posted in Political, U.S. Government, White House, Environment, Global Warming, News on March 20th, 2006 by Longwing

NEWS: In an explosive piece entitled "Rewriting the Science" which aired on CBS 60 Minute's Sunday night, the American public had, yet again, another opportunity to peer into the intentionally deceptive workings of the Bush administration, especially when they don't like the conclusions of world-renowned scientists.  "Check out the video."

    Speaks for itself.

If you appreciate this, you can go to Project for the Old American Century and find much more in a similar vein decorating tee-shirts, sweatshirts, prints, and more.

UPDATE:“Another movement conservative turns against the Right,” as noted by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, publisher of Daily Kos. This is an excellent political blog. You should check it out.

    Where’s Our Damn Music?

Posted in SMC Community, In Loco Parentis on March 18th, 2006 by Longwing

The Siege knows there are unrecognized talents - students, classified, and faculty - in our midst creating all manner of music. Some of it is unexpected and moving, some is delicate and haunting, while some is thunderously raucous - but all deserving a greater audience. WTF aren’t we hearing it?!!

    Let’s change that, shall we?

If you, or someone you know, at SMC is making music you think could/would/should be heard by the people you brush past day to day in your scramble to get somewhere, encourage those artists to post it here, or you do it, or contact the Siege to do it for you.

Ren McCormack - Please Come to SMC, Please!

In 1984, Paramount released the movie “Footloose,” the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a streetsmart teenager from the big city whose family moves to Bomont, an earnest little Oklahoma town, whose elders years earlier had banned any kind of public dancing. Under the inspired leadership of Ren in challenging the statute, his peers rise up and assert their right to dance. Bomont is an apt metaphor for SMC now - before the arrival of Ren.
